Katey Sagal

Katey Sagal is Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy. Gemma does not need a seat at the club table to make her presence felt. Sagal can put affection, suspicion and a warning into the same exchange, and the performance is a large part of why Charming feels like a family home as well as a criminal stronghold. She won a Golden Globe for the role in 2011.

Long before Gemma, Sagal was familiar as Peggy Bundy in Married... with Children. She also plays Cate Hennessy in 8 Simple Rules and voices Leela in Futurama. It is a substantial comic career alongside the drama, not a minor sideline.

Elsewhere on this site, she appears as Helen Norwood in Lost, Nancy Gilroy in The Shield, Annora in The Bastard Executioner and Susan in The Big Bang Theory. Her work as a singer also runs through her career, including recordings heard in Sons of Anarchy. The voice helps give Gemma her weight, but the stillness can be just as effective: she often looks as though she reached her conclusion before anyone else finished speaking.
