Bill Camp

About Bill Camp
Bill Camp plays Mr. Shaibel in The Queen's Gambit. He makes a quiet exchange over a chessboard feel important without announcing its importance. The character's reserve gives the small moments of attention more weight.
Camp is also Detective Dennis Box in The Night Of, a performance that earned him an Emmy nomination. His other television work includes The Looming Tower, American Rust and Presumed Innocent, alongside appearances in Boardwalk Empire and The Leftovers.
His films range from Lincoln and 12 Years a Slave to Dark Waters and Joker. He is particularly good at making a supporting character seem to have a working life beyond the current scene. Mr. Shaibel benefits from that quality: he does not feel invented solely to stand at the beginning of Beth's story.
