Alessandro Borghi

Alessandro Borghi plays Aureliano Adami in Suburra: Blood on Rome. He gives Aureliano a physical impatience that makes even a quiet conversation feel unsettled. The performance is particularly effective alongside Giacomo Ferrara: neither actor has to explain why the other has his attention.

Born in Rome, Borghi worked as a stunt performer before his acting career developed. His early breakthrough films include Don't Be Bad and Stefano Sollima's Suburra. The film and the television series give him different versions of Aureliano; their events should not be treated as one seamless account.

In On My Skin, Borghi plays Stefano Cucchi, a role for which he won the David di Donatello for best actor. His film work also includes The First King and The Eight Mountains, where his performance as Bruno is far removed from Aureliano's restless aggression.

For English-language television, he plays banker Massimo Ruggero in Devils. The setting changes from Rome's streets to London's financial world, but the part again makes use of his ability to suggest a strong reaction being held back.

Suburra is the performance that matters most to this review. Borghi helps make its places feel inhabited, and Aureliano's relationships give the larger struggle for power a personal scale.
