Otmara Marrero

Otmara Marrero plays Izzy Morales, the programmer at the centre of StartUp. Izzy believes in the thing she is building and has much less patience for the people who want to own or reshape it. Marrero makes that impatience an active part of the character rather than a decorative sign that she is clever.

Marrero grew up in the Miami area, where StartUp is set. Her other work includes the independent drama Clementine, in which she plays Karen, and the ensemble television comedy Connecting..., where she plays Annie. She also appears in Florida Man.

Izzy gives her room for stubbornness, vulnerability and badly managed anger. The performance is especially effective alongside Adam Brody and Edi Gathegi: the three characters do not approach the partnership with the same language or assumptions, and Marrero keeps Izzy's priorities distinct.
