John Turturro

John Turturro plays Irving in Severance, bringing careful manners and absolute seriousness to Lumon's everyday rituals. His other major television roles include lawyer John Stone in The Night Of and guest appearances in Monk, for which he won an Emmy.

His film career includes several collaborations with Spike Lee and the Coen brothers. Do the Right Thing, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? give some sense of how different those parts can be. He won Best Actor at Cannes for Barton Fink in 1991.

Turturro is also a writer and director. His directorial debut, Mac, received the Caméra d'Or at Cannes in 1992; later films behind the camera include Illuminata and Romance & Cigarettes.

Irving is a quieter role than some of his best-known film characters. Turturro makes his formal speech and attention to office procedure feel specific to a person, rather than just another joke about corporate life. It is a performance built from small choices.
