Joanne Froggatt

Joanne Froggatt plays Jan Da Souza in MobLand. Jan's perspective matters because Harry's professional effectiveness does not settle the question of what he is like to live with. Froggatt gives that side of the story a life beyond the gangland business.

She is widely known as Anna in Downton Abbey, and her other television leads include Laura Nielson in Liar and Dr Abbey Henderson in Breathtaking. Those roles make use of her ability to keep an emotional response clear without making every scene an explicit statement of it.

In MobLand, she provides a necessary change of emphasis. Jan is not another person asking Harry to solve a criminal problem. Their conversations place different demands on him, and Froggatt makes that difference felt.
