Jerome Flynn

Jerome Flynn plays Banner Creighton in 1923. He is also familiar as Bronn in Game of Thrones, Bennet Drake in Ripper Street and Paddy Garvey in Soldier Soldier.

Those roles make good use of his ability to suggest a man who understands where he stands in a room. Bronn's dry appraisal, Drake's more troubled seriousness and Banner's resentment are different qualities, but Flynn makes each feel rooted in the person rather than added for effect.

In 1923, Banner's dispute with the Duttons has an immediate practical basis. Flynn keeps that grievance alive beneath the aggression. He can be an uncomfortable opponent without becoming an indistinct threat placed in Jacob's way.

That is what makes him useful to the series. A land argument needs people with reasons to persist, and Banner looks like someone who has been keeping account of his frustrations for a long time.
