About Fahri Yardım

Fahri Yardım plays Erol Birkan in Dogs of Berlin. His German film and television work includes Chiko, The Physician, the Hamburg Tatort films and the comedy jerks. That range matters: the controlled detective is one part of a career that also includes much broader comic work.

As Erol, Yardım gives the partnership with Kurt Grimmer a necessary second point of view. He is not simply there to react while the other detective dominates. His listening has purpose, and his restraint can make a confrontation more uncomfortable rather than less.

I watched Dogs of Berlin in German with subtitles, and his delivery is one of the reasons I recommend doing the same. The pauses and changes in tone are part of how he makes Erol's judgement visible.

His scenes with Felix Kramer have the friction of two people who cannot assume they understand each other. Both actors keep their characters' private concerns present without letting them overwhelm the work in front of them.

Read my Dogs of Berlin review for why that pairing is such a strong reason to watch.
