Chaske Spencer

Chaske Spencer plays Eli Whipp in The English, a Pawnee former cavalry scout travelling towards a life of his own. Spencer gives Eli the stillness of someone accustomed to assessing danger before speaking. Beside Emily Blunt's more expressive Cornelia, that reserve becomes a strong part of the show's appeal.

Spencer played Sam Uley in the Twilight films, Billy Raven in Banshee and Chayton Dockery in Sneaky Pete. The English makes particularly good use of his presence. Eli can take charge of a dangerous situation without every scene having to announce his competence, and Spencer finds room for dry humour within that caution.
