Brazilian actor and filmmaker born in Salvador, Bahia. International breakthrough came with his Golden Globe-nominated portrayal of Pablo Escobar in Netflix's Narcos (2015 to 2017), for which he learned Spanish and gained over forty pounds. Other notable work includes Elite Squad and its sequel, plus the 2024 A24 film Civil War.
