Thandiwe Newton gives Maeve Millay a sharp intelligence in Westworld. She can make a pause feel like an assessment of everyone else in the room. The humour is equally important: Maeve's impatience prevents the show's larger questions from becoming entirely solemn.

Newton's film work includes Mission: Impossible 2, Crash and The Pursuit of Happyness. She won a BAFTA for Crash and an Emmy for her supporting performance in Westworld. Her television work also includes Line of Duty.

Maeve is one of Westworld's strongest characters because Newton keeps her responses specific. She is not simply delivering the series' ideas; she is deciding what to believe, whom to trust and how much of her thinking to reveal.
