Shō Kasamatsu

Shō Kasamatsu plays Sato in Tokyo Vice. The role requires him to belong convincingly to a criminal hierarchy while retaining the uncertainty of an individual inside it. Kasamatsu is especially effective at showing the attention Sato pays to a room before speaking.

His Japanese work includes the films Flowers and Rain and Ring Wandering, and the television dramas Love You as the World Ends and Gannibal. He also plays Major Nakamura in The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

Sato is a substantial reason to watch Tokyo Vice. Kasamatsu gives the character a private life and temperament beyond the function he serves in the crime story. A routine conversation can reveal obligation or unease without needing an immediate confrontation to make it interesting.
