Mandy Patinkin

Mandy Patinkin plays Saul Berenson in Homeland. He gives the intelligence veteran warmth without making him soft, and authority without needing a speech every time he enters a room. The relationship with Claire Danes as Carrie is built as much through listening as through argument.

Patinkin's work spans stage, screen and concert performance. He won a Tony for Evita and originated George in Sunday in the Park with George. On film, he is particularly well known as Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride.

His television career includes Dr Jeffrey Geiger in Chicago Hope and Jason Gideon in Criminal Minds. Homeland makes especially good use of the patience in his delivery. He can let a question remain unanswered for a moment and make that pause feel like part of a long relationship, rather than an actor reaching for an effect.
