Kirill Käro

Kirill Käro plays Sergey in To the Lake, a man whose responsibilities to two households become rather harder to juggle when the roads out of Moscow fill with frightened people. Käro makes him a plausible centre for the group: useful in a crisis, less convincing when he expects everyone to put their personal grievances aside.

The Estonian-born actor also leads the crime series The Sniffer and appears in the Russian science-fiction drama Better Than Us. In To the Lake, his relatively restrained performance leaves space for the conflicting personalities around Sergey. It is an ensemble survival story, and he works best as the person trying, not always successfully, to hold that ensemble together.
