About Ken Watanabe

Ken Watanabe plays detective Hiroto Katagiri in Tokyo Vice. His authority is quiet and practical. Katagiri knows that information has consequences, and Watanabe makes his caution feel like experience rather than reluctance to help the story along.

Watanabe earned an Oscar nomination for Katsumoto in The Last Samurai and played General Kuribayashi in Letters from Iwo Jima. His international film work also includes Batman Begins, Inception and Godzilla, alongside a substantial career in Japanese film and television.

On stage, he played the King of Siam in The King and I. Tokyo Vice gives him a less ceremonial setting, but the command of an exchange is just as apparent. He can hold attention by listening, then make a brief answer feel as though it has been carefully weighed.
