Dominic West

Dominic West plays Jimmy McNulty in The Wire. He makes the detective's talent and self-importance equally visible. McNulty can be right about a case and still be a thoroughly difficult person to work or live with.

West's later television roles include Noah Solloway in The Affair, Prince Charles in The Crown, and Dudley Clarke in SAS Rogue Heroes. His film work includes Chicago, 300 and Pride.

The Wire remains an especially strong use of his ability to make confidence attractive and exasperating at the same time. West doesn't need to ask the audience to excuse McNulty. The performance allows you to enjoy his company while recognising the problems he brings with him.
