Brian Cox plays Logan Roy in Succession. His authority can be felt even when Logan isn't speaking. The other characters' attention to his mood is convincing because Cox makes a small change in that mood matter.

The Scottish actor's film career includes Manhunter, Braveheart, The Bourne Identity and Troy. He also plays Rinaldo degli Albizzi in Medici, another role involving power and the expectation of being obeyed.

Logan is not compelling simply because he can be intimidating. Cox allows an encouraging word or a brief warmth to have force as well. That inconsistency is essential to the family dynamic: the children can recognise the harm in seeking his approval and still want it. His performance makes that need painfully understandable.
